State Congress President Jitu Patwari has sent greetings and best wishes to the farmers of the state on Farmers' Day.
Expressing the plight of farmers on Farmers’ Day, Patwari said that it is true that due to increase in the prices of fertilizers, diesel and pesticides, the cost of farming has now become so much that even purchasing crops at support price has become a loss-making deal. That is why, Congress and BJP had set the support price of paddy and wheat afresh in their election manifestos.
Bharatiya Janata Party had fixed the support price of paddy and wheat at the rate of Rs 3100 per quintal of paddy and Rs 2700 per quintal with 'Modi's guarantee'.
He said that I was confident that the Bharatiya Janata Party, which won with a huge majority, would show great heart and implement its announcement of giving support price of Rs 3100 and Rs 2700 on paddy and wheat for the benefit of the farmers in the first cabinet itself, but, it did not happen.
Even today, government procurement of paddy in Madhya Pradesh is being done at Rs 2183 per quintal. It is estimated that this time farmers will sell 50 lakh metric tonnes of paddy to the government.
Patwari said that I want to urge the government to keep its promise to the farmers and stop the policy of laadli bahana and hatred towards farmers. Shri Patwari has also urged the farmers to put pressure on the government to buy about 90 percent of their remaining produce at the increased support price, because, 'It is necessary to oppose the lies and it is necessary to test Modi's guarantee.
