Paradip truck owners’ strike from Dec 26

Friday, 22 December 2023 | PRASANTA ROUT | PARADIP

The local truck owners in Paradip are facing an imminent threat to their livelihoods due to unscrupulous practices of certain transport companies. In response to the alarming situation, an emergency meeting of the truck owners’ Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) was held.

Chaired by JCC chairman Sumant Kumar Biswal and coordinated by Chaila Chandra Jena, the meeting addressed the severe impact on local truck owners who endure lengthy waits, up to 15 days, to access the port area. The committee expressed deep concern over the financial strain faced by truck owners, leading many to incur debt and suffer financially. Despite numerous discussions with the administration to rectify the situation, the lack of interest of the authorities has yielded no tangible results.

In a Press statement, the JCC issued a stern warning, threatening to initiate an indefinite agitation starting from December 26 to draw attention of the authorities to the grievances faced by the local truck owners. The proposed strike aims to emphasize the urgent need for administrative intervention and a resolution to the ongoing challenges plaguing the livelihoods of Paradip's trucking community, the association said.
