A committee of the Jharkhand Assembly on Monday recommended a 25 per cent salary hike for the chief minister and about 31 per cent for other ministers.
The five-member panel had been set up to review the salaries and other perks of the chief minister, ministers, speaker, leader of the opposition, chief whip and whip.
With these recommendations, preparation is for increase in salary and allowances for the 8th time after the separate state of Jharkhand was carved out from Bihar.
Jharkhand state was formed in the year 2000. Since then, this is the eighth time when preparations have been made to increase the salaries and allowances of these public representatives. Earlier in the year 2015, during the reign of the then CM Raghuvar Das, the government had increased their salaries and allowances. The Chief Minister currently gets Rs 2.30 lakh including salary, regional allowance and hospitality allowance. There are plans to increase it to Rs 2.65 lakh per month.
Apart from this, the in-charge allowance available within the state has also been increased. While going out of the state, it has been recommended to increase it from Rs 2500 to Rs 4000. CM and ministers will be able to take three co-travellers with them while traveling by air and ship. They will be able to get a loan of up to Rs 20 lakh at 4% interest to buy a car. Loan up to Rs 50 lakh will also be available for housing at 4% interest. Along with this, other facilities like equipment, house etc. will be available.
