A notorious criminal was nabbed following an encounter with police in Puri district on Thursday. The criminal, identified as Kalu Bhola of Batagaon under the Sadar police station, sustained bullet injuries in the encounter.
The Satyabadi police had got information that Kalu was moving around here near the Sagar Snan Melan Ground, located close to Suando Bridge in the afternoon.
Satyabadi PS IIC Bijay Ketan Behera along with other police personnel rushed to the spot. Spotting the police team, Kalu opened fire at the cops and tried to flee from the spot.
However, the police team fired back in self-defence. Kalu was nabbed from the spot after he sustained bullet injuries in his right leg. Police also seized a pistol and live ammunition from his possession.
Satyabadi PS Sub-Inspector Dipti Ranjan Sahoo too sustained injuries during the exchange of fire. The injured criminal was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
Preliminary investigations suggested that Kalu was planning to commit some major crimes in Puri town. The dreaded criminal had earlier been booked in as many as 18 cases in the Sadar, Chandanpur and Baselisahi police station area in the district.
