A total of 9 nominations have been filed so far for the post of councilor in Ward-41 of Bhopal. On Thursday, Maaz Sageer, son of former councilor Mohammad Sageer , also filed his nomination.
However, till evening both BJP and Congress have not declared their candidates. A round of meetings is going on regarding this. Voting will take place on January 5. This seat has been vacant since July 25 due to the death of the senior corporator of the current council, Mohammad Sageer.
Assistant Returning Officer SDM Ravish Srivastava and Tehsildar Ashok Singh accepted the nominations. Nominations were filed till 3 pm. Maj Sageer arrived with supporters to file nomination. Tehsildar Singh said that a total of 18 nomination forms have been taken.
In the Municipal Corporation elections held last year, 22 out of 85 councilors of Congress had won. BJP has maximum 58 councilors and 5 independent councillors. Congress party has formed a committee for candidate selection whereas Zaheer Qureshi is an observer. A meeting was also held in the Congress office on Thursday to select the candidates.
Sageer 's son Maj Sageer is the leading contender. At the same time, many contenders including Fahimuddin Qureshi, Shawar Khan, Asif Qazi, Ahmed are in the fray. On the other hand, BJP has not revealed its cards. Only old faces can be fielded for the post of councilor. Only MLA Vishwas Sarang will take the decision regarding the candidate.
The last date for receiving nomination papers will be on December 22 from 10.30 am to 3 pm. Whose investigation will be held on December 23 from 10.30 am.
Congress leader Mohammad Sageer was the most senior corporator of the state capital. He has been a councilor continuously since 1999. Sageer was also the Leader of Opposition during the tenure of Mayor Krishna Gaur and Alok Sharma. After prolonged illness he died on July 25 and his corporator seat became vacant.
In the corporation elections held last year in 2022, Mohamamd Sagir was elected councilor from ward number 41. This was his fifth term. He had won by 2,808 votes. Mohammad Sagir got 6,029 votes, while his nearest rival, independent Ahmed Khan, got 3,221 votes.

This action was taken under the leadership of encroachment in-charge Nasir Khan. This action was taken in many areas including Karond, Housing Board Colony, Devki Nagar. To avoid any ruckus or dispute during the operation, Nishatpura police station was also present.
