NDMA conducts mock drill on flood preparedness in State

A mock drill was organized on Thursday in all the 24 districts of the state including Dhurva Dam in Ranchi on how to rescue people if a flood situation occurs in Jharkhand and people get trapped in the flood.

The mock drill was conducted in Dhurva Dam to understand how all the departments should coordinate among themselves to provide relief and medical facilities to the people trapped in the flood.

The mock drill was conducted under the guidance of Brigadier Birendra Thakar of the National Disaster Management Authority, Government of India. On this occasion, Brigadier Thakar said that the purpose of the mock drill is to strengthen the preparedness of all the departments before and during the disaster, so that there is minimal loss of life and property and our preparations for any disaster are complete.

Deputy Secretary of Disaster Management Department, Rakesh Kumar said that the purpose of the mock drill is to show how all the departments should work together during any disaster. He said that during a disaster, our main objective is rescue, rehabilitation and restoration of infrastructure. There should be minimal loss of life and property, zero casualties. There is a belief that the more you sweat in calm times, the less you will suffer in times of disaster. Keeping this in mind, we are doing this mock drill. Said, proficiency comes only through practice, hence it is important to keep practicing.

A mock drill was conducted on how to rescue people trapped in floods. The flood situation was shown by the NDRF team and a live demo was given on how various methods would be used to rescue the people trapped in it. Information was given about two methods of rescue, dry rescue and wet rescue, and how through both these rescues, People trapped in the flood can be rescued and the medical team also gave a demo on how to provide medical care to the rescued people.

Five teams of NDRF, one team of SDRF, electricity department, BSNL, medical team, municipal corporation, police department, transport department, drinking water department, district administration officials and fire brigade participated in the mock drill. On the occasion of the mock drill, officials of all the concerned departments and people from nearby areas were present.

 

The session culminated with an empowering address by Risav Ganguli and Himani Shah, the last year's YCP winners, emphasizing that the program augments one's candidacy beyond a mere certificate.
