Sixty-five Mughal period silver coins and antiquities were found in village Bazar-Navagaon in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday.
The discovery was made when a pot came up while laying a pipeline in the village market.
Dongargaon’s Sub Divisional Officer Sunil Nayak said the findings had been kept at a police station under the guidance of Vivek Acharya, Director, Archaeology, Archives and Museums, Raipur.
These will be shifted to the Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum, Raipur.
Acharya said prima facie the silver coins seem to have been issued during the period of Mughal ruler Ahmad Shah Bahadur. They were minted in Cuttack. The script inscribed on the coins was Arabic-Persian.
