A tragic event unfolded on Monday morning on Ludhiana-Delhi National Highway near Khanna, resulting in one fatality and injuring 16 individuals. The accidents, triggered by dense fog causing low visibility, led to multiple vehicle collisions and raised concerns about road safety during winter weather conditions.

The deceased was identified as Ranbir Singh from Sirhind, who lost his life in a devastating accident near the Bhatiyan area. Alongside this fatality, 16 others sustained injuries in separate accidents near Bija and a mall on the route to Mandi Gobindgarh. The reduced visibility on the Ludhiana-Delhi national highway, particularly in Khanna area, played a significant role in causing three separate accidents in Bija, Bhatiyan areas, and near a mall beyond Khanna.

Local sources reported that the deceased, Ranbir Singh, tragically lost his life in the accident near the Bhatiyan area. Additionally, other individuals suffered injuries in accidents near Bija and a Mall on the way to Mandi Gobindgarh.

Furthermore, 16 individuals were admitted, with two sustaining rib fractures and one with a hip fracture. Thirteen patients were discharged after receiving initial first aid.

Expressing deep shock and anguish over the tragic road accidents, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann assured the public that he was closely monitoring the situation. He promptly directed the District Administration to provide free treatment to all the injured, underscoring the Government’s commitment to support victims of such unfortunate incidents.

Chief Minister Mann emphasized the need for increased vigilance to prevent any loss of life and property and urged people to drive cautiously during foggy days.

Expressing deep shock and anguish over a tragic road accident near Samrala due to heavy fog thereby injuring several commuters, the Chief Minister bemoaned that due to fog several vehicles had collided with each other on Monday morning due to which a number of commuters were injured.

“I have already directed the District Administration to provide free treatment to all the injured. I am constantly in touch with the administration and regularly monitoring the situation,” he said.

In the wake of foggy days ahead, the Chief Minister also exhorted the people to drive their vehicles cautiously so as to avoid any sort of loss of life and property.
