The special operation group (SOG) and Chamoli police along with the Forest department arrested one man with the gallbladder of a bear. According to the police, a tip off was received on Sunday after which a native of Nepal currently living in Pursadi in Chamoli district, Gaman Singh was caught in Nandprayag. A bear gall bladder weighing 43 grammes was recovered from him. Officials said that the market price of the contraband in the illicit market is estimated to be about Rs three lakh. A case was registered against the accused under the Wildlife Protection Act and he was sent to jail, the police added.
It is pertinent to mention here that this is not the first instance of a wildlife criminal being apprehended by the authorities for poaching and wildlife smuggling of wildlife in the Nanda Devi biosphere reserve.
