A 65-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death while his son sustained injuries following an argument in the Rudrapur area of Deoria district, police said on Sunday.
Circle Officer Jilajeet Singh said the victim, Prashuram, was returning to Nagrauli village when he had an argument with some people from another community, with whom he had a past enmity. Following the argument, the group allegedly thrashed Prashuram to death and his 22-year-old son, Krishna Chandra, was seriously injured.
Prashuram’s another son Ravi Shankar and daughters, Pinki and Rinki, also sustained injuries in the attack, the officer added. The police have arrested five accused in this connection and police personnel have been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile in a tragic road accident in Pilibhit district on Sunday morning four people, including a couple from Lucknow, were killed while two children were critically injured. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. Police started an investigation and sent the bodies for postmortem.
Abdullah, a resident of Khadra in Lucknow was travelling to Nainital along with his wife Saima Rahat, their eight-month-old daughter Abhiya, cousins Butul, Maryam and Amin.
Around 4 am, their speeding car collided with the DCM parked near Garhwa Chowki on Sitapur Highway in Sehramau North Zone in Pilibhit district. Abdullah, Saima, Butul and Maryam died on the spot while Abhiya and Amin were critically injured. The injured were rushed to Puranpur community health centre from where they were referred to Puranpur district hospital while the bodies were sent for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, hearing the screams, a driver of a bus going towards Palia pulled the brake, and a private bus going towards Khutar hit it from behind. Some bus passengers sustained minor injuries. Police seized both vehicles and admitted the injured to the hospital.
