Former Chhattisgarh Congress legislator Mahant Ramsundar Das has quit the party after losing the Assembly elections, the party said on Thursday.
In his resignation letter to state Congress chief Deepak Baij, Mahant said he was fielded from Raipur (South) but the party lost by a biggest margin.
"I take moral responsibility for the defeat and tender my resignation from the primary membership of the party," he wrote in his letter.
The resignation letter, written two days ago, has not been accepted so far.
Also, Congress leaders met Mahant to persuade him to take back his resignation.
Mahant won the 2003 and 2013 Assembly polls from Pamgarh and Jaijaipur seats in Chhattisgarh respectively.
In 2023, the Congress fielded Mahant against BJP stalwart Briojmohan Agrawal who defeated him by 67,851 votes, the biggest victory margin in the state.
