A court in Jabalpur district sentenced 9 persons to life imprisonment for killing a person and carrying out murderous assault on three others due to enmity. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 2500 on each of them.
According to prosecution, the accused attacked Nitin Chakravorty, Akash Patel, Vaibhav Patel and Ranjeet Singh with swords, lathis, iron rods and baseball bats outside a marriage garden in the area under Gadha police station.
Nitin was killed in the attack while the three others were grievously injured. Police had registered a case of murder, attempt to murder, rioting and other charges against the accused Sachin Chakravorty, Gopal Chakravorty, Tarun Chakrvorty, Karan Chakarvorty, Ranjeet Chakravorty, Daya Shankar, Vikky, Tarun and Santosh.
On the basis of evidence produced in the court and statement of witnesses, the special court of Girish Dixit held the accused guilty and sentenced them to life.
