The Left parties in Uttarakhand have decided to extend their full support to the "secular" candidate who can defeat BJP in the Bageshwar Assembly by-election. The Left parties have not fielded any candidate in the by-election.
A meeting of the senior leaders of the Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI -M), CPI Marxist Leninist (CMI -ML) was held at the office of CPI -M here on Saturday. The meeting was chaired by Samar Bhandari. In the meeting, the Leftist leaders said that the double-engine government has proved to be a failure on all fronts in the State. They said that in order to hide its failures the government is trying to ignite communal tension. A concerted effort is being made to spread communal hatred in the State and the recent events in Purola and Sahaspur are some of the examples. The speakers said that unplanned development and government's apathy are responsible for the recent rain triggered natural disaster in the State. In the meeting the leaders condemned the ongoing anti encroachment campaign in the different parts of the State. They decided to start a state-wide agitation against the anti-people and communal politics of the BJP government.
The meeting was attended by leaders of various communist parties including Jagdish Kuniyal, Rajendra Singh Negi, Indresh Maikhuri, Rajendra Purohit, Kailash Pandey, Ashok Sharma, Anant Akash and others.
