: The Government of Odisha has issued a notification for running of the Government College of Engineering, Kendujhar through Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. It indicates that the State Government after investing crores in building the infrastructure and necessary logistics has now desired to hand over the institution to private parties for unknown reasons.
After long standing demands from the denizens of mineral rich, industrial district Keonjhar, the Government had established the college two decades ago. The main aim was to provide quality technical education in the field of technology at affordable cost unlike profit making private colleges.
But it seems the Government is now heading towards profit making objective instead of giving priority to provide education with a social development motive. Hence, the Kendujhar District Progressive Citizens Forum and several other people's organisations have condemned the motive of running the Government institution by PPP mode. They have warned of a massive agitation against the move. Local MLA Mohan Majhi and people’s representatives have dubbed the move as injustice to the district.
