Jharkhand to host Women’s Asian Champion Trophy

First time in history, India and Jharkhand will host the international tournament Women's Asian Champions Trophy. This tournament will be played from October 27 to November 5 at Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, Morabadi in Ranchi. The logo of the tournament was unveiled at the Ranchi Hockey Stadium on Tuesday before media persons of the State.

Also a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Hockey India and Government of Jharkhand. At the same time, the Jharkhand Government handed over a cheque of Rs 10 crores to Hockey India for organizing the event.

Unveiling the logo, Sports Minister Hafizul Hasan said that it is a matter of pride for the State that it is going to host such a big event in the history of the State. It is the effort of the State Chief Minister, Hemant Soren that the State is going to organize the international event.

On the occasion Hockey India Chief, Dilip Tirkey said that Jharkhand has contributed a lot in the field of Hockey and present four girls from the State are part of senior women India team. The organization is very happy for the selection of Jharkhand to host the event.

Sports Secretary Manoj Kumar, Sports Director Sarojini Lakra were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the media persons on the occasion, Hockey India General Secretary, Bholanath Singh said that the 11th edition of the Women's Asian Champions Trophy will be played at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Hockey Stadium in Ranchi. “A total of 6 teams which are India, Japan, China, South Korea, Malaysia and Thailand will participate in this tournament. Between which a total of 21 matches will be played. Not only this, there will be free entry for the audience,” he added.

Singh further said that the Indian hockey team will also play a match in the Women's Asian Champions Trophy. “Four players from Jharkhand have also got a place in the Indian team. This includes the names of Salima Tete, Nikki Pradhan, Beauty Dungdung and Sangeeta Kumari,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that Japan and South Korea have won the title of Women's Asian Champions Trophy 3-3 times. At the same time, India and China have won the match 2-2 times. For the first time the tournament was organized in 1985. India won this title for the last time in 2017.
