Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankar on Sunday said that the country's economic progress from being the 5th largest global economy to becoming the 3rd largest global economy by the end of the decade. The World Bank has reckoned that what India has accomplished in 6 years for digital inclusion, the world typically takes 47 years to do the same. This commendation from the World Bank is a tribute to the present governance model that is highly accountable and transparent.
As a part of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, XLRI - Xavier School of Management Jamshedpur, hosted the Vice-President of India, Jagdeep Dhankar at Tata Auditorium, XLRI Jamshedpur.
Accompanying the Vice-President, C.P. Radhakrishnan, the Governor of Jharkhand, and T V Narendran, CEO & Managing Director of Tata Steel Ltd, and Chairman of XLRI, also graced the occasion.
The Vice-President said that India’s efficient digital payment system is now being adopted by nations like Singapore. Our UPI Transactions alone reached 1.5 trillion US Dollars surpassing major economies of UK, US, Germany and France’s digital payments. Our transactions happen to be 4 times more than the transactions of these nations. Our per capita mobile data consumption is an important indicator, this reflects technological penetration. Its extensive use means that people in villages, semi-urban & urban areas have started using it and that is more than that of China & UK taken together for 2022. In 1990, to sustain our fiscal credibility we had to send in physical form of gold to Banks and now our foreign exchange reserve is around 600 billion, a great accomplishment. Today we are standing at the threshold of the 4th Industrial Revolution, it is indeed a transformative era, propelled by cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, etc.”
