CONG ODISHA IN-CHARGE TO VISIT STATE ON JAN 6
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Pattanayak on Thursday met new AICC Odisha-charge Ajay Kumar at the 139th foundation day of the Congress being held in Nagpur in Maharashtra. Pattanayak held discussions with Kumar regarding the party affairs and his visit to Odisha. Pattanayak said Kumar would come to Odisha on January 6. The PCC is scheduled to felicitate Kumar after he arrives in the State, said PCC media coordinator Deepak Kumar Mahapatra.
FIRE BREAKS OUT AT EDIBLE OIL FACTORY IN KHORDHA
Khordha: A major fire broke out at an edible oil factory in Sarua Industrial Estate under the Baghamari police limits Khordha district on Thursday. Assets worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in the mishap, which reportedly took place due to an electrical short circuit. The short circuit happened at the godown and the office room of the factory. Panicked, the workers rushed out of the factory. On being informed, Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and initiated efforts to douse the flames.
TANKER CARRYING HYDROCHLORIC ACID OVERTURNS IN KORAPUT
Koraput: A tanker carrying hydrochloric acid overturned on NH-26 near Telerai in Pottangi ghat of Koraput district on Thursday. The accident was followed by leakage of the acid from the vehicle. On being informed, Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot while efforts were on to stop the leakage and restore the position of the truck. The road was blocked for vehicular movement to avoid any possible untoward incident.
RS 50L GANJA SEIZED IN GAJAPATI
Paralakhemundi: On the directions of Excise Superintendent Prabhat Kumar Sethy, a raid was carried out and a car loaded with ganja was intercepted at Mohana in Gajapati district. A person identified as Sashi Nayak was arrested after 13 bags stuffed with the contraband were seized from the vehicle. The ganja was brought to Mohana from nieghbouring Andhra Pradesh. Later, it was to be trafficked to Lingipur in Bhubaneswar. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is around Rs 50 lakh.
ODISHA’S SATBIR MANAGER OF TEAM INDIA FOR SA TEST SERIES
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Cricket Association member Satbir Singh Riar has been appointed as the manager of the Indian Cricket Team for Test series in South Africa. Riar, who hails from Malkangiri district, will serve as the manager of the team in the first Test in Centurion and second Test in Cape Town.
