The Income Tax (I-T) Department raided a liquor manufacturing unit in Dhenkanal district in connection with the seizure of a huge cash from country liquor shops belonging to Congress MP Dhiraj Sahu’s Boudh Distillery Pvt Ltd.
Two teams of I-T officials conducted the raid on Shakti Maltier and Lemonade Pvt Ltd owned by a businessman, namely, Bikram Kishore Sahoo at Machhia village under the Tumusinga police limits in Dhenkanal district since yesterday.
According to reports, the firm has been manufacturing liquor and other beverages since 2012. The company is authorised for blending, bottling, distribution and selling of liquor.
Bikram Sahoo, the proprietor of Shakti Maltier and Lemonade Pvt Ltd, owns a total of six liquor shops in Dhenkanal district. Reports said that Sahoo used to buy necessary spirits from the Boudh Distillery.
The I-T Department conducted the raid on allegation of tax evasion by the liquor firm.
The marathon raids by I-T officials in Dhiraj Sahu’s premises in Jharkhand and Odisha have led to the recovery of over Rs 350 crore and approximately 3 kg of gold ornaments so far. This is stated to be highest-ever cash haul by any probe agency in the country.
