Hurt and insulted with behaviour of Speaker: Marandi

Thursday, 21 December 2023 | PNS | Ranchi

State BJP President and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi today lodged a strong protest in front of the media against the decision of the Assembly Speaker. Marandi said that not allowing him to say even a few words in relation to the Bill introduced in the House by the State Government on local and employment policy is an insult to a senior member of the House.

He said that he has also been a minister and MP at the Centre. In Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, if any senior member raises his hand to speak, he is definitely given an opportunity to speak. But today, even after raising his hand thrice on the bill related to local planning policy, an important issue of the state, the Speaker did not give him an opportunity to speak.

Marandi said that if the Speaker of the Assembly had not given the opportunity to any member to speak after both the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition had spoken, then he would have understood but to treat me disrespectfully is not the impartiality of the Speaker but political behaviour motivated by ill will.

The State BJP chief said, “I am feeling sad and pained because even though the Speaker of the Assembly does not consider me to be of BJP, but as an MLA, I am entitled to give my opinion on an important issue of the state. After all, that is why the people of the area elected me.”

On re-introduction of the Local and Planning Policy Bill returned by the Governor with suggestions in the House, Marandi said that the Hemant government was only doing politics. Its intention is not clear.

He said that BJP fully respects the sentiments of the people of the state. A big example of this is the creation of a separate Jharkhand state.

He said that there was UPA rule at the Center for 10 years from 2004 to 2014 and the state was also under President's rule for most of the time. Hemant Soren was the Deputy Chief Minister and also became the Chief Minister by bringing down Arjun Munda's government on the issue of local policy. But he never took any initiative regarding employment policy.

He said that employment and locals’ policy is within the jurisdiction of the state government. His government had made appointments by taking decisions in the Cabinet. Arjun Munda's government also made appointments and then Raghubar Das' government made appointments in 2016 by making a policy.

He said that from the formation of the state till 2019, only the NDA government under the leadership of BJP made the appointments. The Hemant government has only cheated the youth in the name of rules and regulations.

In the reply tabled in the Assembly, the appointments made by the Hemant government are only nominal. Even if the appointments are made, they are from the advertisements issued by Raghubar government.

He said that if the Hemant government intends to provide jobs to the youth then it should avoid complicating the policy.
