The Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Tamar former MLA Gopal Singh Patar alias Raja Peter and one of the main conspirator in the murder case of former minister cum then Tamar MLA Ramesh Singh Munda. The division bench of Jharkhand High Court headed by Justice S Chandrashekhar of the High Court granted bail with certain conditions in view of the custody period of Raja Peter and the abundance of witnesses in the trial.
Before this, Raja Peter's bail petition had been rejected twice by the Jharkhand High Court. His bail petition had also been rejected by the Supreme Court on the basis of merit. During the hearing, the court was told on behalf of the applicant that Raja Peter has been in jail for six and a half years and the number of witnesses in this case is also very high, hence he should be granted bail.
Actually, considering Raja Peter as the main conspirator in this case, NIA arrested him on 9 October 2017, since then he is in jail. In this case, NIA has also got the testimony of about 5 protected witnesses. NIA took over the case on 28 June 2017. It may be noted that on July 9, 2008, during a function at SS High School in Bundu, four people including Ramesh Singh Munda were shot dead. Apart from Ranchi Police, CID has also investigated this murder case but they could not reach the murderer. After this, 9 years after the incident, NIA took over the case. In the same case, King Peter's bodyguard Sheshnath Singh Kharwar was arrested on 7 October 2017. Naxalite Kundan Pahan, who was involved in the same case, had surrendered before the state police on 27 May 2017. A dozen accused in the said case are in jail.
Sukhdev surrenders at Civil Court, gets bail
Former Congress president Sukhdev Bhagat on Wednesday surrendered at Civil Court in connection with the case of obstructing government work and attacking a public servant in the year 2018. Bhagat has been charged of assaulting and obstructing the then executive officer of Lohardaga Municipal Council, Gangaram Thakur. The MP-MLA special has granted him bail. In the year 2018, an FIR was lodged against 15 people including former Congress state president Sukhdev Bhagat. In the year 2022, the police had filed a charge sheet against the accused, taking cognizance of which the court had issued summons against all the accused.
