In a major development in the marital discord between actor-turned-politician Anubhav Mohanty and actress Varsha Priyadarshini, the Orissa High Court on Thursday allowed the divorce of the celebrity couple.
Hearing a petition filed by Mohanty challenging the verdict of the Family Court, Cuttack, the High Court quashed the lower court’s order.
“Our main grievance was non-consummation of marriage. Taking into account the evidence, the High Court allowed divorce of the couple. The appellant (Mohanty) got justice. There was no ruling on alimony,” said Mohanty’s counsel.
Notably, the Family Court had on September 22 rejected Mohanty’s divorce petition. It had also rejected a plea for restitution of conjugal rights filed by Varsha.
Mohanty had then moved the High Court on October 17 challenging the Family Court’s verdict.
The actor had alleged that Varsha refused for consummation of their marriage and caused mental cruelty to him by her conduct towards him and his family members.
Notably, Mohanty, who belongs to the BJD, is currently the Lok Sabha member from Kendrapada.
