As predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier, the mercury plummeted across Odisha on Sunday night. G Udaygiri in Kandhamal district turned out to be the coldest place in the State recording a minimum temperature of 9.4 degree Celsius.
In the plains, Keonjhar recorded 9.8 degree as the mercury dropped to 15 degree or below in many places of the State.
The temperature also fell considerably in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. While the capital city recorded a minimum temperature of 15.7 degree, the mercury fell to 15 degree in Cuttack.
There was an appreciable fall in minimum temperature at many other places also. The IMD has forecast further drop in the night temperature by 2 to3 degree during next two days.
The weather office said the minimum temperature in the State may plummet to 9 degree at Koraput town and Phulbani by December 13 to 14 with Sundargarh and Rourkela at 10 degree each. Most places in the State might record temperature below 20 degree Celsius by then.
