Fugitive radical preacher Amritpal Singh's wife Kirandeep Kaur was stopped at the Sri Guru Ram Dass International Airport by immigration officials while she was trying to board a flight to Britain.
She was questioned by the immigration authorities and later officials of the Punjab Police and was allowed to go after three hours of questioning. She missed her flight to Britain and returned to her husband’s house in Jallupur Khera village near Amritsar. Singh married Kaur, a UK-based NRI, in February this year.
More than a month after a police crackdown against Singh and his aides, the radical preacher continues to remain elusive even as a manhunt to nab him is underway. Police on March 18 had launched the crackdown against Singh and members of his outfit 'Waris Punjab De.' He and his associates were booked under several criminal cases related to spreading disharmony among classes, attempt to murder, attack on police personnel and creating obstructions in the lawful discharge of duty by public servants.
Kaur, a British citizen, was apparently stopped on the basis of a lookout circular that was earlier issued against her. Officials said that she is not named in any of the FIRs involving Amritpal and his aides. Since the crackdown on her husband and his men, Kirandeep has been questioned by the Punjab Police about her association with Amritpal and the funds in her bank accounts.
