An IED explosion, suspected to have been carried out by Maoists, left two SOG jawans critically injured in Sirla forest under the Tumudibandh police limits in Kandhamal district on Sunday.
The injured jawans were admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Kandhamal SP Suvendu Patra said, “The explosion took place at around 10 am while a combing operation by the security forces was underway in the area. The blast injured two SOG jawans.”
“The combing operation has been undergoing in the area for the last two days over suspicion of presence of Maoists. More details about the explosion will come to the fore after the return of the security forces,” the SP added.
The combing operation has been intensified in the area after the explosion while an exchange of fire between the jawans and the Maoists was underway.
