A former Executive Engineer of Rural Works (RW) Division in Nabarangpur district and his wife have been convicted in a disproportionate assets (DA) case.
Simadri Nayak, retired Executive Engineer of RW Division at Umarkote, and his wife Laxmi Nayak have been convicted by a Special Vigilance court in Bhubaneswar for possessing disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 38,40,769.
The ex-Executive Engineer has been sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI). Besides, the court slapped a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on him. Non-payment of the penalty amount would invite imprisonment for additional six months.
His wife has been sentenced to RI for one year. The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 2 lakh on her. She would undergo imprisonment for additional three months for nonpayment of the penalty amount.
Following the conviction of the retired Executive Engineer, the Vigilance department would now move the competent authority for stoppage of his pension, said an official.
