The 33rd National Energy Conservation Day was observed at SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant(RSP) at the HRD Centre on 14th December. Mr. S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works), was the Chief Guest of the programme, while Dr. Arnab Ghosh, Assistant Professor, NIT, Rourkela was the Key Note Speaker. Mr. Somnath Tripathy, ED (MM), Dr. B. K. Hota, ED (M&HS), Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (P&A), Mr. Alok Verma, ED (Mines), many Chief General Managers, Heads of Departments, and other senior officers of the plant were present on the occasion. The dignitaries lighted the ceremonial lamp to mark the inauguration of the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Suryawanshi said, “It is our collective responsibility towards the society to utilise energy wisely and save it for a better future. Energy management is not just a matter of compliance; it is our pledge to safeguard our environment.” He went on to say that in 2021-22, the specific energy consumption was 5.99 Giga Calorie/Ton of Steel, which was the lowest in SAIL while RSP has also done better in water management and alternative power generation. ED(Works) exhorted the RSP collective to improve the numbers further. “ISO 50001: Energy Management System has already been implemented in RSP and is giving us results” he added.
The Keynote speaker Dr. Ghosh made a detailed presentation on ‘Power management in Powergrid Systems’.
The dignitaries presented awards to the prize winners of the slogan writing, poster making and innovative suggestions competitions held earlier.
Mr. P. S. Kannan, CGM (EMD), welcomed the gathering and set the tone of the programme.
The event was anchored by Ms. Khushboo Mishra, Manager (R&C Laboratory) while Mr. A.S. Khaka, GM (EMD) proposed the vote of thanks.
