PWD Minister Atishi on Saturday pulled up her own department for laxity and apathy towards the dismal condition of roads. Atishi said all roads wider than 60 feet are maintained by the PWD and these roads are in abysmal conditions in most parts of the city.
In a communication addressed to the PWD Principal Secretary, the minister has directed with an ultimatum to repair all the potholes in the national capital by the end of this year; soliciting daily reports on the progress to be tabled.
The PWD Minister further directed the that resurfacing of roads where its required, has to commence latest by 01/02/2024 and finish by 29/02/2024.
The PWD Minister also directed the PWD Principal Secretary to ensure that these timelines are strictly adhered to, and strict action against officers who cause delays. Expressing her displeasure at the state of disrepair of PWD roads, Atishi stated that it’s shocking & unacceptable; serious accidents are possible. Due to the PWD’s laxity & apathy, Delhiites are at the receiving end
“I’ve been directing PWD for the past 6 months regarding the same yet no action by the PWD; I have taken at least 10 meetings & carried multiple ground visits”, Atishi wrote in her communication.
Earlier, PWD Minister Atishi pulled up the Principal Secretary of the PWD on the poor conditions of roads in Mandawali in east Delhi and directed him to get the roads fixed promptly by making a timeline. She has also instructed swift and strict action against the responsible officers for the road’s deplorable condition.
