Additional Chief Secretary Arun Singh today handed over letter of allotment of CME credit hours to Chairperson Scientific Committee Jharkhand Ophthalmological Society Dr. Bharti Kashyap for the annual conference of Jharkhand Ophthalmic Society to be held in Hazaribagh from March 31 to April 2 for the first time in Jharkhand. Along with this, for the first time in 20 years, availability of CME credit hours for medical conferences of all specialties began in Jharkhand.

C.M.E. Credit Hours is a measure to certify the continuous quality improvement of doctors' diagnostic, medical treatment and surgical treatment. If a doctor has sufficient C.M.E. credit hours, it means that the doctor is continuously maintaining his quality in his diagnostic, surgical and medical treatment and is aware of the latest technical knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient and this increases the trust of the patients in the doctor.

In a 3 hour conference 1 CME Credit hours are given; if a conference is of 6 hours in a day, then 2 C.M.E. Credit hours are given; if a conference is for 3 days and there are 6 to 8 hours of sessions per day, then 6 to 8 CME hours are available in it. In this way, if a doctor attends one or two conferences in a year, he can easily get 6 to 8 CME Credit hours and he can easily get 30 credit hours in 5 years.

There is also a need for some modification in credit hours rules made by NMC as CME credit hours earned in one state are not valid in another state. Apart from this, even after attending online conferences, CME credit hours are not valid in other states.

It is also required in government jobs, but there is a provision for different hours in every state and in some states, CME is required. There is no provision for renewal of credit hour registration and government jobs.
