Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Sunday, said that the teachings of Gautam Buddha inspire people to accept problems first in order to be able to find solutions and also to work as a team, adding that working under a single leader is more rewarding.
Chief Minister Yogi further stated that Buddha gives the message of following the path of religion with wisdom and discretion and acquiring knowledge.
The chief minister made these remarks at the convocation ceremony of Gautam Buddha University held in Greater Noida on Sunday. The convocation ceremony was graced by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. As Chancellor of the university, Chief Minister Yogi welcomed and felicitated Vice President Dhankhar on the occasion.
During his address, the chief minister said the vice president reaching the function on time by road despite bad weather was an inspiration for the youth. He described Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar as an ideal example of reaching from zero to zenith.
The chief minister congratulated all the students of the university who received the degree and wished them a bright and prosperous future. He said the university was named after Lord Gautam Buddha, who unraveled several mysteries of life. He said that Buddha’s life was not only inspirational but also showed a new path to the country and the world.
The chief minister said that the convocation sermon had come from the gurukul tradition of India, in which a guru, after teaching, preached to his disciples that the essence of whatever knowledge they had acquired was to speak the truth and follow the path of religion.
Buddha also says to take refuge in religion, he pointed out.
“Religion is not a method of worship, but a coordinated form of morality, moral values and duty. It remains the same in every country, time and situation. The method of worship varies according to the country, time and circumstances. But religion is an eternal system,” he remarked.
The chief minister added: “Buddha has asked each of his followers to acquire wisdom and prudence. Apart from this, he asked them to work with team spirit. Be it university, industry or family, teamwork always gives results. However, only that team, which works under one leadership, gives results. Buddha’s teachings pave the way for the welfare of humanity.”
The chief minister told the students who received the degrees that endless possibilities awaited them after university, adding that the young generation has to decide the welfare of the world.
He also said that the educational institutions should not be reduced to mere centres for distributing degrees.
“Educational institutions are built with the money received with the support of society, so we should be grateful not only towards our mother, father and teachers, but also towards society,” he said.
The chief minister expressed his appreciation for Gautam Buddha University for carrying out the social impact study of Jewar airport. “Not only did this provide new experience to the faculty and students, it also brought income to the university,” he remarked.
Chief Minister Yogi said that educational institutions would have to be associated with the industry and work as innovation centres along with research and development.
On this occasion, gold medals were awarded to eight students of the university. At the same time, degrees were awarded to 7,914 students of Vidya Vachaspati, post-graduate and undergraduate degrees of eight faculties. Besides, degrees were also awarded to five foreign students from Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Taiwan.
On this occasion, UP minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’, Brijesh Singh, Vice Chancellor Prof Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Dean (Academic) Prof MP Malkania, faculty members of the university and students who received degrees were present.
