Choirs across the city are in full swing, fine-tuning their carols for the midnight mass. The Bishop House at Golmuri, a prominent venue for Christmas celebrations, is being adorned for the occasion, expecting a congregation of over 500 people on Christmas day.
In the past two weeks, choir members have been spreading Christmas cheer by visiting parishioners' homes. After a session of carols, the choirs and households exchange greetings and sweets, marking a heartwarming tradition.
A choir member shared, "Most of the choirs began practicing for the Christmas season. Caroling has always been the most awaited part of Christmas celebrations.”
On Christmas Eve, elaborate decorations and midnight prayers are planned at churches throughout the city, including St Mary's Church in Bistupur, Beldih Baptist Church in Northern Town, and St Anthony's Church in Parsudih. Special tableaux of Jesus Christ will be featured, creating a festive ambiance.
Bistupur and Sakchi witness a transformation as shops deck up with Christmas and New Year cards, decorations, stars, and Christmas trees. The city is set to be painted in red and white, embracing the Yuletide spirit.
Renowned shops like Relish, Howrah Bakery, and Brubeck Bakery showcase mouth-watering Christmas cakes. Despite rising prices, residents are eager to celebrate, flocking to shops for Christmas trees, cakes, gifts, and decorative items.
A local resident expressed, "We are in the preparation of Christmas, and we are visiting this stall to buy some items for our Christmas tree. As the rates of petrol, gas, everything has gone up, so the rates of these items are also reaching the sky. But the items are really good."
As the city adorns itself for Christmas, the anticipation and festive spirit are palpable, promising a joyous celebration for all residents.
