Pb SEC announces bye-election of Mansa’s Bhamme Kalan village on Dec 24

Chandigarh: Punjab’s State Election Commission on Friday issued election schedule and notification vide which the bye election to the post of Sarpanch (woman) of Bhamme Kalan village in Mansa district, has been announced. The desirous candidates can file their nominations up to December 13, 2023, in the office of the Returning Officer and the poll will be held on December 24, 2023 (Sunday), and the result will be declared on the same day. All voters entered in the electoral roll are eligible to participate in the election. The Model Code of Conduct within the revenue jurisdiction of said Gram Panchayat has come into force with immediate effect.

Punjab BJP to hold demonstration against Cong today

Chandigarh: The Income Tax raids on Congress’ Rajya Sabha member Dheeraj Sahu have revealed the true face and character of the grand old party as well as of India Alliance; and the discovery of “huge cache of black money” is just a tip of the iceberg, said PUnjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Friday. He said that the saffron party would be holding demonstrations against the Congress in the entire state on Saturday, and the district presidents have been instructed to hold massive protests against this blatant corruption.
 
Dr Dogra honoured during VRSI-2023 annual conference

Chandigarh: Formerly the head of Ophthalmology Department at PGIMER, Chandigarh, and Chandigarh's renowned retina specialist Dr Mangat Ram Dogra, has been honoured with the prestigious Dr Badrinath Oration at the 32nd conference of Vitro-retinal Society of India (VRSI) 2023, at Thiruvananthapuram. He is currently working as the Director of Retina Services at Grewal Eye Institute. The distinguished award recognizes Dr Dogra's lifelong dedication to combating Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) — a disease of the retina in premature babies and if not diagnosed and treated in times it leads to irreversible blindness.
 
Punjab’s 14 HEIs under umbrella of BSM formulate ‘Research for Resurgent Punjab’

Ropar/Bathinda: In a path-breaking initiative, in a meeting held in IIT Ropar under the umbrella of Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal (BSM) have united to pioneer the ‘Research for Resurgent Punjab’ (RRP) — aimed at developing an all-encompassing solutions addressing critical challenges faced by Punjab. Led by eminent figures in academia and education, including IKGPTU-Kapurthala’s former VC Prof Rajneesh Arora, Central University of Punjab’s vice chancellor Prof Raghavendra P Tiwari, IIT-Ropar director Prof Rajiv Ahuja, among others, the RRF pledges a holistic approach to research and development.

 HAU and Indian Oil Corporation to assist farmers in establishing Beekeeping 

Chandigarh: In collaboration with Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), Hisar, the Haryana government has aimed to generate interest among landless, unemployed, and illiterate rural men and women towards beekeeping. It has also aimed to establish small beekeeping units as a form of self-employment, receiving both financial and technical assistance, said a spokesperson. He said that an MOU has been signed between the University and Indian Oil Corporation Limited in the presence of the Vice Chancellor of CCSHAU and the Executive Director of Northern Regional Pipeline on behalf of IOCL. The spokesperson highlighted that Haryana is one of the leading states in honey production among states and represents the entire country in beekeeping areas. He emphasised how landless, unemployed, and illiterate farmers in the state can strengthen their economic situation by adopting beekeeping as a means of employment.

On Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, over 51,000 people join programs 

Chandigarh: On the eighth day of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, programs were organized at 120 locations in Haryana, attracting participation from more than 51 thousand people, a government spokesperson said on Friday. Over 15 thousand people availed of health checkups at health camps, with 11,389 individuals undergoing TB screening. During the Yatra, 331 people utilized the Ayushman Card Camp, while 334 sought information at the PM Swanidhi Camp. Furthermore, 216 individuals attended the Aadhar Card Camp, and 99 farmers gained insights into natural farming, he added.
