Rajya Sabha MP and former BJP state president Deepak Prakash on Tuesday sought information from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs of the Government of India in the Rajya Sabha regarding the construction of houses under Prime Minister Awas Yojana in Jharkhand. Through his unstarred question, he also sought information related to the estimated number of houses, completed and under construction houses as well as the reasons for delay in its completion. Responding to this, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore said that PMAY-U is a demand-based scheme. On the basis of project proposals, 118.63 lakh houses have been sanctioned under PMAYU. Out of these, construction work of 113.43 lakh houses has started. Also, out of these, 78.27 lakh have been completed or handed over to the beneficiaries. The number of houses sanctioned under PMAY-U in the state of Jharkhand during each of the last three years was 2,29,156. The number of houses under construction of PMAY-U is 2,13262. The total number of houses completed during this period is 1,33,429. Still 95,894 houses have not been completed in Jharkhand. Responding to the delay in completing the projects, Kishore said that the time limit for completing the projects varies from state to state. Generally the various components of the scheme and the detailed project reports of the respective projects take 12- 36 months. The duration of the scheme, which was earlier up to 31.03.2022, has been extended to 31 December 2024 for completion of all sanctioned housing without any change in the funding pattern and implementation methodology, except Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) of the scheme.
