The Delhi BJP on Thursday held a protest at Jantar Mantar here against "mocking" of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar by TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee and demanded an apology from opposition leaders including Congress' Rahul Gandhi.
Several protesters had tied black bands on their foreheads. BJP MPs Manoj Tiwari, Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and several other leaders were among those who took part in the protest.
"Parliament is the temple of democracy. The Lok Sabha speaker and the Rajya Sabha chairman are not individuals but institutions. Making fun of them and disrespecting them is like insulting that temple. We demand an apology from Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders," Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said.
Sachdeva said that if the son of a poor farmer occupies such a big position from the grassroots level, then the Congress can not tolerate this, that is why they make indecent remarks against him because Rahul Gandhi's thinking is feudalistic and this feudalistic thinking will become the reason for the elimination of Congress from the country. Delhi BJP President appealed to everyone to go to their respective areas and expose the behavior of Congress and Aadmi Party leaders.
BJP leader Dushyant Gautam said that today the opposition neither has respect for democracy nor for constitutional posts.
This kind of action by the opposition is only a result of the defeat in all three states which has increased their anxiety. The opposition tried to divide the country on the basis of caste census but they failed in that and in three states OBCs and farmers did not vote for them, hence they are upset.
Bidhuri said that before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi had insulted the country's army and he had to pay the consequences by forfeiting his security deposit from Amethi in the elections. But this time the deposits of both Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi will be confiscated. He demanded that TMC to expel her MP Kalyan Banerjee from the party.
Mamta Banerjee has said that Rahul Gandhi's conspiracy is behind this entire incident. “Today, the movement against Rahul Gandhi is going on across the country, his effigies are being burnt and the country will continue to protest against him until Rahul Gandhi apologizes,” he said.
The political row broke out after Banerjee derisively mimicked Dhankhar during the opposition's protest on the stairs of Parliament on Tuesday against the suspension of MPs, drawing strong condemnation from the ruling BJP. Gandhi was seen making a video of the performance by Banerjee. Dhankhar has said the December 19 incident is an insult to his background as a farmer and his caste (Jat).
On Wednesday, the Jat Mahasangh held a protest march near the Congress headquarters here against Dhankhar's mimicry and burnt an effigy of the party.
