Popular actor Anuj Sharma, traditional dancer Radheshyam Barle and ex-IAS officer R.P.S. Tyagi were among 400 persons who joined the BJP here on Thursday.
All the new members were inducted into the party in the presence of BJP state in-charge Om Prakash Mathur, state President Arun Sao, former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh and other senior leaders.
BJP spokesperson Amit Chimnani said more than 400 persons mainly Chhattisgarhi artists, engineers, doctors, lawyers, farmers, social workers, businessmen and hundreds of students studying in different colleges took primary membership of the party.
Sao said such drives will boost the strength of the party ahead of assembly elections.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said the decision by Padma awardee Anuj Sharma to join the BJP was no big deal. He has been close to Raman Singh. Most of those who joined the BJP have earlier worked for the party in elections, he added.
