Biporjoy storm: Trains regulated as Railways prioritise passenger safety

As the powerful Biporjoy cyclonic storm looms over the region, railway authorities have announced the implementation of precautionary measures to ensure the safety of passengers and railway infrastructure. In view of the severe weather conditions expected in the coming days, several train services will be regulated to minimize any potential risks.

The " cyclonic storm, predicted to make landfall in the coastal areas within the next 48 hours, has prompted the Railway Ministry to take proactive steps to safeguard the well-being of passengers and mitigate any adverse effects on train operations.

Railway officials have closely monitored the cyclonic storm's progress and are in constant coordination with meteorological agencies to receive real-time updates and forecasts. The safety of passengers, staff, and the overall infrastructure remains the highest priority.

In accordance with the precautionary measures, the railway authorities have decided to regulate the movement of several trains during the cyclonic storm's impact period. The regulations will primarily focus on trains scheduled to operate in the areas expected to be most affected by the severe weather conditions.

12905 Porbandar-Shalimar Express, journey commencing on 14.06.2023 and 15.06.2023 will remain cancelled. 12906 Shalimar-Porbandar Express, journey commencing on 16.06.2023 and 17.06.2023 will remain cancelled. 22829 Bhuj-Shalimar Express, journey commencing on 13.06.2023 will remain cancelled.

Short Termination/Short Origination of Trains: 22906 Shalimar-Okha Express, journey commencing on 13.06.2023 will be Short Terminated at Surendranagar.  12949 Porbandar-Santragachi Express, journey commencing on 16.06.2023 will be Short Originated from Ahmedabad.

“Passengers who have booked tickets for the affected trains are advised to check the status of their journey through the official railway website or helpline numbers provided. The railway authorities are making efforts to inform passengers about the regulatory changes and facilitate appropriate alternatives, such as rescheduling or cancellations, to minimize inconveniences,” said an official.

In addition to regulating train services, the railway authorities have undertaken various preventive measures to safeguard railway infrastructure. Special attention has been given to vulnerable sections of the tracks, bridges, and signaling systems in the cyclone-prone areas. Necessary repairs and reinforcements have been carried out to ensure the safety and integrity of the railway network.

Railway staff and emergency response teams have been put on high alert, equipped with necessary resources and trained to handle any emergency situations that may arise due to the cyclonic storm. Adequate provisions for the provision of food, water, and medical assistance have been made at various railway stations, particularly in areas expected to bear the brunt of the storm's impact.

 The railway authorities urge passengers to exercise caution and strictly adhere to safety instructions during their journeys. It is recommended to stay updated with official announcements and avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas prone to the cyclonic storm's impact.
