Bhopal’s climate changes begins in Dec first week

Sunday, 17 December 2023 | Staff Reporter | BHOPAL

The climate of Bhopal has changed since the beginning of December. Generally, due to winter in November-December, AQI (Air Quality Index) which is more than 300, is around 98 i.e. in (satisfactory) condition. With this, there has been a significant decline in AQI in all the districts of the state.

Due to reduction in fog, AQI has declined. On Friday, AQI 98 (satisfactory) was recorded on the live monitoring system installed in the Collectorate office of Bhopal.

Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) Regional Manager Brajesh Sharma said that according to the data so far, it rarely happens that AQI remains so low in December. Recently it has also been recorded up to 48. The main reason for this is the reduction in fog and at the same time, the weather is open and there is continuous sunshine, due to which harmful gases are easily able to dissolve in the atmosphere.

The lowest AQI so far recorded in Bhopal was 48 on December 1. Such a low AQI was recorded for the first time in the month of December. The main reason for this is the continuous rain for the last several days. Let us tell you that after the effect of rain across the state, now due to reduction in fog, improvement in the pollution situation has been seen.

Environmental expert said that AQI usually increases during the cold season. In cold weather, the harmful gases emitted from vehicles are not able to expand into the atmosphere and remain stagnant in the atmosphere. As cold and fog increase, gas and dust particles stay in the atmosphere for a longer time. This increases AQI. At the same time, if it rains, then these dust particles settle into the ground rapidly, due to which the AQI falls. If we talk about December, it is not common for AQI to be so high. Because every year in December it increases rapidly in winter.

According to the report, the air quality of every city of the state has improved. Due to this rain that has been happening for almost a week, in Singrauli and Gwalior, where AQI was being recorded around 300 for a long time, it has come down to 81 and 135. At the same time, the minimum AQI has been recorded at 30 in Maihar.
