The two-day Behind The Teacher’s Desk (BTTD-2023), a national level student seminar on Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, is being organised from June 8-9 by the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) Jamshedpur Chapter in association with CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Tata Steel Limited; National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur and Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR).
The seminar was formally inaugurated with the release of seminar souvenirs by the chief guest Prof. Goutam Sutradhar, Director, NIT Jamshedpur and Guest of Honor, Dr. A.K. Srivastava, Director, NML, Jamshedpur along with Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Chairman, BTTD programme, Dr. A.N. Bhagat, Chairman, IIM Jamshedpur and Dr. Ammasi A., convener of the BTTD-2023
The aim of the seminar is to provide a common platform for promising and aspiring metallurgists to interact with the pool of experts from industries, R&D centres and academia. The student participants of this event will get an opportunity to update their current knowledgebase, and share their academic achievements, innovative thoughts and new ideas in the field of metallurgy and materials technology.
Since its inception in the year 2011, the seminar "Behind the Teacher's Desk (BTTD)“ has blossomed into one of the most sought after events among the student fraternity of India.
Dr. A.K. Srivastava, Director of CSIR-NML, Jamshedpur welcomed the Chief Guest, delegates, and speakers. He said BTTD is a unique programme for the undergraduate, post-graduate and Doctorate students in India and also dedicated to the young professionals working in the fields of materials science and metallurgy, enabling them with the chance to network with and learn from their peers.
Prof. Goutam Sutradhar, Director, NIT Jamshedpur was the chief guest of the inaugural function and addressed the student participants. He said such events organised by the pioneer institutes of metallurgical field will certainly enhance the creativity of young minds and also help in developing interpersonal skills. Prof. Sutradhar added, this junction will provide ample opportunities for students to express their ideas, skills and will be their foundation stone for the future course. He also directed students to focus their research on additive manufacturing, reviving foundry based technology and incorporating the use of IOT, Artificial Intelligence in the manufacturing processes.
Dr. A.N. Bhagat, Chairman, IIM Jamshedpur Chapter briefed about the activities and the national & international event being organised by IIM Jamshedpur. Dr. Bhagat spoke about the global concern of CO2 emission in the steel & automotive sector and asked students to initiate study to overcome this.
Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Chairman of BTTD programme briefed, like previous years, this year around 100 students and speakers from 25 engineering colleges/institutes from different parts of the country are participating, and around 37 technical papers and 23 e-posters are to be presented in three parallel sessions.
