Pandara village under the Garu east range of the tiger reserve Palamu is most frequented by the bears.
Villagers keep indoors right with the onset of evening and by 7 at night the village goes to sleep, said the ranger Garu east Umesh Dubey.
It is sheer luck of the villagers that bears have not caused any harm to human life, reminded the ranger Dubey.
Quite recently the deputy director south division of the tiger reserve Palamu Kumar Ashish had been to Pandara village where he interacted with the locals who in one voice spoke about the fear of bears as bears keep coming almost every evening.
Ashish said "I have asked the villagers to keep themselves safe from bears and at the same time not to harm bears as well."
Scat of bear has been found along with its foot prints, said Ashish.
Bear becomes life threatening when it has its calf with it and the bear has this feeling that the man before him will take away its calf.
Bear attacks face and head more as it immediately incapacitates man from its fight against the bear.
Ranger Umesh Dubey said a few villagers recited some 'Mantras' and that sedates the bear from showing any aberration.
Although bears have taken 2 or 3 human lives on an average a year, there is no conflict of humans with bears like that of man elephant conflict in PTR.
Elephants destroy houses and hence man gets into conflict with elephants. Bear does not destroy houses and hence enmity with it of man is not of that acuteness or intensity.
