The State continued to shiver due to the cold wave as minimum temperature plummeted below 10 degree Celsius at 16 places on Wednesday night.
Udayagiri recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 4 degree followed by Semiliguda (Koraput) 5.7 degree, Phulbani 6.5 degree, Kirei (Sundargarh) 6.6 degree, Koraput 7.6 degree and Angul and Daringbadi 8 degree.
Rourkela recorded 8.3 degree, Keonjhar 8.4 degree, Sundargarh 8.6 degree, Bhawanipatna, Jharsuguda and Nabarangpur 9 degree, Ranital (Bhadrak) 9.1 degree, Sonepur 9.7 degree and Balangir 10 degree.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack also witnessed this winter’s lowest minimum temperatures of 12.4 degree and 12.8 degree, respectively, the India Meteorological Department said.
Meanwhile, the weather office predicted that the severity of the cold wave would lessen from Friday and several districts of the State would witness dense fog in subsequent days.
Dense fog is very likely to occur in the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Koraput on Friday, said the IMD.
Dense fog is very likely to occur in the districts of Baleswar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal and Kalahandi on Saturday.
“The visibility may drop below 200 meter at one or two places over the districts due to dense fog from the night hours of December 22 to the morning hours of December 24,” said the IMD while issuing a Yellow warning.
