Azamgarh known for terrorism in past has a changed identity today: Shah, Yogi

Saturday, 08 April 2023 | PNS | Azamgarh

During the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress rule, Azamgarh was known for terrorism whereas under Prime Minister Narendra Modi it was witnessing development, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday.

The prime minister has opened the government purse for the development of Uttar Pradesh, Shah said addressing a rally in Azamgarh

He recounted that links of terrorists exploding a bomb in a Gujarat temple were found in Azamgarh.

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone of Hariharpur Music College and various other development projects in the district.

Bhojpuri star Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’ had won the 2022 bypoll from Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat, which was vacated by Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav after becoming an MLA.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that earlier this land of sages, monks, ascetics, litterateurs and artists used to be known for ‘destruction’, but today Azamgarh had regained glory for development.

He flayed the previous governments saying, “Earlier the youth hailing from Azamgarh were denied even a place to live in other cities and states. The place was known for hooliganism and destruction.”

On the occasion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of 117 development projects worth Rs 4,585 crore.

The chief minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country had presented itself as a new India.

“It has set new benchmarks of development, security and prosperity.  Uttar Pradesh is also working as envisioned by the prime minister and the home minister. The development of Azamgarh was stalled in the name of caste and religion.  Earlier, Azamgarh had a crisis of identity. But you all have seen that today this district has become very close to the capital Lucknow by joining the Purvanchal Expressway,” Yogi said.

He further said that during his last visit, the Union home minister had laid the foundation stone of the university named after Maharaja Suheldev. “Not only this, to honour the heritage of Azamgarh, the foundation stone of the college in the name of Hariharpur Sangeet Gharana is being laid,” he said.

The chief minister said that Azamgarh was earlier known for bomb blasts and destructive activities but today its name was being taken for development.

“Inauguration of such massive projects worth crores bears testimony to the development-oriented vision of the state government. Previously such events were a mere dream for Azamgarh,” he said.

Yogi asserted that similar to the years 2014, 2017, 2019, in 2024 also Uttar Pradesh would work with full commitment to make the lotus bloom under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
