Ashok Awasthi, a senior officer of the 1990 batch of the IPS, took charge of the Special DG Complaint Branch on Friday.
Awasthi was earlier holding the post of Additional Director General of Police, Complaints/Human Rights.
He is a B.A., MBA, Ph.D., a senior officer of the Indian Police Service. For his remarkable police work, he was awarded the President's Meritorious Service Medal in 2010 and the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2016.
Awasthi's first posting was in Jabalpur as Assistant Superintendent of Police. After this, he was Additional Superintendent of Police of Ujjain, Gwalior and Jabalpur. Shri Awasthi has been the Superintendent of Police of Balaghat, Katni, Damoh and Rewa districts. He has also discharged the responsibilities of Additional Director General of Police, Technical Services, Training, STF, Complaint/Human Rights and Officer on Special Duty to the Home Minister. He was also Inspector General of Police, AJK Police Headquarters and Lokayukta. He has also served as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Visbal Police Headquarters, SCRB, Chhindwara Range, Narcotics Indore and Bhopal Range.
