Alumni were exhorted to do something for the society and the underprivileged during the first Reunion of the St Mary’s Alumni Association on Sunday which coincided with the 80 years of the alma mater St Mary’s English High School in Bistupur.
Well known educationist Lalita Shareen who was the chief guest of the function asked the former students of the school who had come from across India and overseas and converged at the school auditorium to remember the spirit of sharing and giving during Christmas time.
“It is a coincidence that the reunion is being organised during Christmas time and former students should remember the spirit of sharing and giving for the underprivileged. You have acquired knowledge, success in career and now it is time to do something for humanity and support those who are underprivileged,” said Shareen who has over a decade of teaching experience in Sacred Heart Convent and had been the founding principal of Jamshedpur Public School for 15 years.
Lalita Shareen who is currently director at the Mount Litera Zee School and coordinator of AIWC Schools in Jamshedpur said that paying back to the society should be a befitting agenda for the alumni members during the 80th year of the school.
Principal of the school, Father Vernon D’Souza reminded the students that the objective of the alumni association should be to do something for the society
Social worker Bharat Singh who was the guest of honour also asked the alumni members to fulfil their social responsibility to the school and the society.
More than 100 alumni members had gathered at the school campus to revive nostalgic memories spent at their alma mater.Current and former principals of the schools and former teachers of the school were also felicitated on the occasion.
Former students had also gathered at a picnic near Dimna Lake on Saturday. The evening on Sunday ended with musical and cultural programs.
