The Life Science Research Board (LSRB), DRDO, has sanctioned a research project to a team of researchers at AIIMS Bhopal. The project aims to identify novel urinary biomarkers for acute kidney injury (AKI) in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) to improve early detection and treatment outcomes.
Dr. Ashok Kumar and Dr. Jagat R Kanwar from the Biochemistry Department, along with Dr. Saurabh Saigal (Critical Care), Dr. Mahendra Atlani (Nephrology), and Dr. Abhishek Goyal from Pulmonary Medicine, will lead the project. The team aims to identify urinary biomarkers that can accurately detect and stage AKI in ARDS patients, benefitting not only army personnel but also other patients.
AKI can lead to serious complications for patients such as the need for dialysis and longer hospital stays, which can increase morbidity and mortality.
