After leading a walkout over the issue from the Rajya Sabha earlier this week, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday hit the streets in Delhi with its demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into businessman Gautam Adani’s alleged misdemeanours. AAP workers led by Delhi convenor Gopal Rai and MLAs Saurabh Bhardwaj and Durgesh Pathak gheraoed BJP Headquarters at ITO, leading to massive jam in the area.
Addressing workers, the party's Delhi convener Gopal Rai said a joint parliamentary committee comprising members from various parties should probe the matter. "BJP is running away from the probe. There is only one leader, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who is not scared of any investigation," he said.
Rai further said that if PM Modi doesn’t order an investigation into this scam, it will become evident that he is part of this nexus. “Why doesn't PM Modi have the guts to take Adani's name? The kind of scam Adani has done, the country is standing on the verge of an economic crisis,” he added.
Criticising the PM Modi, AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj said that Prime Minister speaks all day and all night but he does not speak on Adani but wherever PM Modi goes, Adani reaches behind him.
“Adani has got coal mine in Australia, defence deal in Israel, green energy in Sri Lanka and electricity contract in Bangladesh, this is enough to prove that what level of ties he harbours with the PM. Hindenburg has exposed many companies before also, after two years of research, Hindenburg rightly told the world that Adani's stock will sink,” Bhardwaj added.
Adani Group stocks have taken a beating on the bourses after the US-based Hindenburg Research made a litany of allegations against it, including fraudulent transactions and share price manipulation.
The business conglomerate has dismissed the allegations as lies. Opposition parties, including the Congress, have alleged that the meltdown in Adani Group shares is a scam that involves common people's money as LIC and SBI have invested in them. The party has also been demanding a joint parliamentary committee probe into the issue.
