Eight students of a picnic party sustained serious injuries when the bus in which they were travelling hit a stationary truck from behind near the Khambeswaripali-Kadamtala locality on Khordha-Balangir NH-57 in Subarnapur district on Thursday.
The injured were identified as students of a private computer institute located in Sonepur town.
According to reports, some students of the computer institute had gone to Deomali in Koraput district for picnicking on Wednesday. They were on their way back when they met with the accident early on Thursday morning. Around 45 male and female students were travelling by the bus.
The injured were rescued by some locals and were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Sonepur for treatment. However, two of them were later shifted to the VIMSAR in Burla after their conditions deteriorated.
“The road mishap occurred probably due to dense fog. The truck had met with an accident before when the bus hit it,” an eyewitness said.
