As many as eight security personnel were suspended by the Lok Sabha secretariat over the massive security breach that took place at the Parliament on Wednesday. The suspended police personnel were on deputation for Parliament security and tasked with frisking visitors and mediapersons.
The sources identified them as Rampal, Arvind, Vir Das, Ganesh, Anil, Pradeep, Vimitt and Narendra. "Though they are on deputation for Parliament security, their cadre-controlling authority is the organisation that they represent and not the Lok Sabha Secretariat," a functionary said. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is responsible for perimeter security.
A day after Parliament security breach, stringent measures were put in place in and around the building on Thursday with police and Parliament security staff thoroughly vetting credentials of those entering the complex.
The MPs were subjected to thorough checks before entering the building, including making them remove their shoes for checks. Only parliamentary staff and those working in nearby offices with valid identity cards were allowed to access the road between Parliament and the Red Cross building in central Delhi as part of tightened security arrangements. Security personnel deployed outside the Transport Bhavan, metres away from the Parliament complex, did not allow anyone to go beyond the barricades they had put up before checking their identity cards and entry passes.
