Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has granted permission to Delhi Police for a probe into the role of eight prison officials in a case of organised crime syndicate allegedly run by conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar from Rohini jail.

Saxena has given permission to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police for investigation into the role of eight Group B officers of Delhi Prisons under section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, related to the crime syndicate allegedly run by Sukesh.

The eight are currently behind the bars, the officials said. They include two jail superintendents, three each of deputy jail superintendents and assistant jail superintendents. This is in addition in addition to the permission granted last year by him to probe the role of 81 other jail officials under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 for facilitating Sukash in lieu of financial gains.

Raj Niwas officials said during investigation, it was emerged that Sukash used to pay approximately `1.50 crore every month for getting facilities to use mobile phones and a separate barrack without any hindrance.  The jail officials who will now face probe u/s7& 8 of PoC Act are Sunil Kumar, Sunder Bora (both Superintendent), Prakash Chand, Mahender Prasad Sundriyal, Subhaash Batra (all Deputy Superintendent), Dharam Singh Meena, Lakshmi Dutt and Prakash Chand (all Assistant Superintendent).

During investigation, it emerged that these eight Jail officials, already arrested under provisions of MCOCA for facilitating the organized crime syndicate run by Sukash Chandra Shekhar, operating from the Barrack No. 204, Ward No. 3, Jail No. 10, Rohini, had also facilitated Sukash by making his stay comfortable and ensuring privacy, so that he could use mobile phones in the jail, in lieu of pecuniary gains.

The footage of various cameras of Rohini Jail were collected and analyzed, duty roster of the said staff was checked, phone details were analyzed and information was collected on the basis of the disclosure of the accused persons.

It was found that that the said staff was deployed in the Barrack of Sukashin consultation with him so as to help him to carry out his criminal activities, for pecuniary gains.  From analysis of CDRS/IPDRS of phones seized, it was noted that Sukashwas continuously in possession of two mobile phones.

During investigation, it has come out that money was paid to all these staff irrespective of their duties, as bribe to ensure that they keep themselves away from spilling beans and remain silent. A separate barrack was exclusively provided to Sukash by these Jail officials in gross violation of Jail Manual, for pecuniary gains received through Assistant Superintendent Dharam Singh Meena on regular basis.

In November 2021 the Delhi Police had told a court here in a charge sheet that Chandrashekhar was using high-end mobile phone applications to spoof the landline numbers of government authorities to extort a large sum of money from several individuals from inside the Rohini prison. Due to his habit of allegedly bribing jail officials, he has been shifted from one jail to another.

He has stayed in Mandoli, Rohini and Tihar jails.

Sukesh is charged with many multi-crore fraud cases and is also accused of duping high-profile individuals, including the family of former Fortis Healthcare and Ranbaxy Lab promoters Shivinder and Malvinder Singh from the premises of the prison.

Earlier in an open letter last month, Sukash, has once again written a letter to his ladylove Jacqueline Fernandez.

He has claimed that he will be constructing a super-specialty hospital for horses, dogs and cats in  Bengaluru with a budget of Rs 25 crore and it will cover 25000 square feet. Sukash claimed that it was Jacqueline’s dream to do something for animals that’s why he is building a pet hospital.
