6 contract railway labourers charred  to death in Dhanbad

Six contract workers of railways working for  installing  electricity poles as part of electrification of tracks, were  charred to death around noon on Monday  as the  poll they  were trying to install slipped form their  hands and touched the high voltage overhead wire running with 25,000 volt current near Jharkhor station  on Dhanbad - Gaya grand  chord section  of Dhanbad Railway division.

All six died instantly on spot and  a dozen more sustained burn  injuries, confirmed Kamal Kishor Sinha  DRM of Dhanbad Railway  division, who reached on spot along with other railway officers after the  incident .

The DRM admitted gross violation and  negligence at  work. There was  no shut  down of power taken by the contractor while  they were  doing the  work. As per rules, a shutdown  of power  is mandatory, he told media persons. The  incident took place between 11.35 to 12 noon, he added.

A committee of  senior railway officers   would inquire  into  different aspects of  the incident,  said the DRM.

The dead have been identified as Govind Singh, Shyamdeo Singh, Suresh Mistiry, Sanjay Ram, Sanjay Bhuiya and one other.

Those dead  are from Palamu, Bihar and UP.

One nearby villager Nisha who was fetching water from a hand pump too has sustained burn injuries. All injured persons have been shifted to local hospitals.

Several  trains  were stopped at different stations immediately after the incident.

Howrah - Bikaner express waa detained at Dhanbad and Kalka  Howrah at Tetulmari station   due to this incident.
