4 children drown in a pit in Hardoi

After Rampur, in yet another tragic incident reported from Hardoi, four children drowned in a pit dug up for the construction of Ganga Expressway.

 

The children were residents of Mekpur village in Pachdevra in Hardoi district. The pit was filled with water after heavy rains and the four kids drowned in it while playing there.

 

The deaths caused anger among the local people.

 

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences on the tragic deaths and assured the family members of the victims of financial help.

 

A team of local police and senior police officials reached the spot as soon as the news of the incident spread. The deceased were identified as Azmat (11), Saddam (14), Shaukin Ali (12) and Mustakim (10), according to Hardoi District Magistrate Mangla Prasad Singh.

 

In a similar incident on July 1, two kids died after they fell in a water-filled pit dug up for the Ganga Expressway project in Budaun. The incident took place in Aipura village under Ughaiti police station.

 

With the fresh casualties, 15 children have lost their lives in similar incidents. The deaths have been reported from several areas, including Islamnagar, Ughaiti, Dataganj.

 

Earlier on Wednesday, at least five children lost their lives after they drowned in a pit of a brick kiln in Rampur’s Shahbad village. The children from nearby village Gadmarpatti had gone to graze goats and went to bathe in the water accumulated in the deep pit dug near the brick kiln and five of them drowned.

 

Meanwhile, four persons were killed on Ayodhya highway in Safdarganj area of Barabanki when a state road transport bus hit an e-rickshaw, police said on Thursday.

 

The incident occurred on Wednesday when a bus from Lucknow to Ayodhya hit an e-rickshaw carrying nine people, killing four, Additional Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Narain Singh said.

 

The deceased were identified as Bindara (40), Pinki (38), Vijay (45) and Chandara (60).

 

Five persons were injured in the incident and were rushed to hospital. Three of them were referred to the KGMU Trauma Centre in Lucknow.
