In a tragic incident, three persons of a family, including two minor girls, were killed and seven others were injured when they were hit by a car while waiting for a bus in Auraiya on Agra-Lucknow Expressway, police said.

According to police, the deceased along with other family members were on their way to attend a marriage function.

“Ten persons were waiting for a bus on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway when a speeding Hyundai Aura car hit them in the Airwa Katra police station area on Sunday evening,” Circle Officer Ashok Kumar said.

“One Raman Singh (40) of Nagla Pahadi village of the area, his niece Aaradhy (8) and his daughter Gungun (10) were killed in the accident. They were pronounced dead when they were rushed to a hospital. The seven injured – Kalpana (35), Alka (30), Rajesh (50), Aarti (25), Priyam (19), Ravi (18) and Suraj (10) – were taken to a hospital in an ambulance. Of the seven injured, Kalpana, Alka and Suraj are family members of Raman Singh, who died. They were referred to another hospital in Saifai,” Kumar said.

He added that the driver of the car was detained and his vehicle was confiscated.

“We will take action against the accused,” the police officer said.

In another road mishap in Azamgarh, three persons were killed and as many injured after being hit by a car in the Bardah area, the police said on Monday.

Ankit Rai was coming from Jaunpur in his car on Sunday night when the accident took place.

Police said Rai lost control of his car near Bardah Chowk and it overturned, hitting some people standing at the roadside.

Dharmendra Saroj, Manish Saroj (26) and Dabbu (40) died on the spot after being hit by the uncontrolled car. Three persons – Arvind, Priyanshu and Manish Gautam – were injured. Gautam’s condition is said to be critical.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, two youths were feared drowned after they slipped into river Renuka while taking selfies from a rock in the Obra area of Sonbhadra district on Sunday, police said.

Police claimed that Mukesh (25), Ankit Kumar 16) and Ashutosh had gone to take a stroll near a newly-constructed bridge on the river Renuka.

“During this they climbed on the top of a rock to take a selfie and slipped into the river,” police said, adding that Ashutosh somehow managed to swim to safety, and Mukesh and Ankit went missing.

Efforts are being made to trace the two with the help of the divers.
